There are different methods of inducing labour. The shorter, softer and more dilated the cervix is, the easier it is to induce labour.

25 % of all births are induced in Denmark. There are many reasons for induction of labour; the most common reason is that the pregnancy has passed the due date by 10-12 days.

It is important to be patient when natural labour occurs as it can take time before the contractions become effective. The same applies when labour is induced. Induced labour can be ineffective, however this rarely occurs.
